As more and more leaves fall from the trees this time of year, they cover our lawns and land in streets and roadways.  It is time to keep in mind that rain and wind cause leaves to clog storm drains that contribute to ponding and flooding of roads and private property.  Residents can help by disposing of leaves properly and by regularly clearing debris from storm drains to keep them flowing freely.  Never sweep or blow leaves into the roadways.  Use them for compost, or bag them in biodegradable bags for collection on Wednesdays (Yard Waste Pick Up).

Also, remember to drive carefully as wet leaves are slippery.  They reduce your traction and can be a contributing factor in motor vehicle crashes.  Make sure to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you to allow plenty of time to come to a safe stop.
